Current Productions at ACMA

Season Schedule
The ACMA Acting Company will offer over five theatre productions during the 2003/2004 school year. Productions will include, Gossip, Antigone, One Act Festival, Electra, ACMA Acting Showcase, and various Beaverton School District Student Matinee Workshops.

Working collaboratively with professional artists, parents, teachers, and community volunteers, students lead in the development of all aspects of our productions.

Gossip Dates:
Oct. 15-16, Student Workshops/Tours

Writers: Student Devised Forum Theatre

Description
This Forum Theatre event explores social pressure, bullying, cliques, and fear in teen relationships. Through this interactive workshop the audience will explore the destructive nature of gossip and create strategies to stop bullying in our schools. Audience members will have the opportunity to intervene in the drama to help the central character find positive choices and solutions.

Writers: Bertolt Brecht

Description
This ancient Greek tragedy set in a contemporary war torn country tells the story of a young woman torn between the laws of her corrupt uncle, and the laws of the gods. Using techniques of Epic Theatre as outlined by Brecht, students will present a contemporary conflict between the power and righteousness of the laws and leaders vs. the power and righteousness of individual morality and will.

One-Act Festival Dates:

Writers: Student Written and Directed Scenes

Description
ACMA students in Creative Writing and English 9/10 classes in the first semester will write contemporary one-acts using Greek myths, gods, and heroes as a foundation. In the second semester ACMA Film and Theatre students will stage and film these plays with student actors and directors. The final plays will be presented at the annual ART IS MY VOICE Gala.

Writers: Euripides

Description
In Euripides' ancient tragedy Electra seeks vengeance upon her mother Clytemnestra and new stepfather for the murder of her father Agamemnon. In our production, set in the Financial District of 1989 Manhattan, the bohemian Electra is consumed by greed, hatred, and violence seeking to overpower the conservative hypocrisy of her mother's new household.

Dates: 3PM, June 3rd, ACMA Theatre

Price: No Charge

Writers: Selected Scenes and Monologues

Description
This combination of scenes and monologues from contemporary and classic plays will feature Junior and Senior performers in the Acting Company. Performers will have an opportunity to meet and discuss their presentations with a panel of Directors, Agents, and Casting Directors.

BSD Student Workshop Matinees, Dates:

Description
In maintaining our mission to provide educational theatre performances to Elementary and Secondary schools in our district, the ACMA Acting Co. will perform selected workshops for invited student audiences. Some productions will also tour to selected BSD schools upon request.
